Joseph F. Mearman, PE
President

Joe has over 20 years of experience in engineering management, automation and control systems, and systems engineering. Joe has been a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland since 1997 and has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. Before starting Maryland Automation, he spent ten years working in defense contracting with a primary focus on autonomous automation and control for Navy Ships and Border Security between the US and Mexico. Prior to that, he spent 10 years as a research and development engineer and program manager at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Annapolis Detachment. With experience in providing automation for US Navy warships, and managing 20 personnel with an annual revenue of 5 million dollars, Joe insures that all services from Maryland Automation are of the highest quality, accomplished within budget, and are on schedule

Ryan Elwell, PE
Vice President

Ryan has over 20 years of experience in the design of electrical, control and automation systems. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland and has degrees in electrical engineering from Drexel University and The George Washington University. Prior to starting Maryland Automation, he worked on several major Navy contracts, including the automating and operation of a 108 foot Navy vessel and the reduction of the daily workloads of Navy personnel through automation. It was on these programs that the value of “open architecture” system design was discovered. He brings with him the unique experience of working through strict Naval standards to benefit the home automation system customer.
